Some install teasers of Jill’s and my collaborative Fur installation at Barbara Koerble’s exhibit, Recombinant Abstraction. It features artists that marry a variety of atypical materials into new abstract forms and has work from Mike Cunningham, Angel Fernandez, Barbara Horlander, Cynthia Lewis, Adam Palmer, Susan Sitzes, Fred Spaulding, and Jill O’Brien and myself. It’s up at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center through August 30. The work in it is pretty amazing; Adam Palmer has a whole wall of little plastic toy joys that is alone worth making the trip. Details and curator’s statement here.

Eerie, creepy, scary, spooky
CALL FOR ENTRIES: “2017 Eerie, Creepy, Scary, Spooky.” Umm, yes please?
Beachcombed Booty
Awesome haul today beachcombing Padre Island. The crab molts are extremely brittle but I hope to use them in a sculpture. The egg cases and poor dead critters (found that way!!) are going into collection jars. Exciting day–I haven’t found sea pansies on the beach in almost 20 years!
idek
I don’t even know… I’d say it was a work-in-progress but it’s more a work-in-regress. It was intended to become a rabbity lump on a ceramic snake pedestal but I think it may be better as a freaky little wall piece. Will post some follow-up pics soon, unless we just can’t resolve our differences.
deadWEST on Glasstire
Our variation of “Fur” at Winter Rusiloski and Angel Fernandez’ gallery deadWEST gets some great coverage on Glasstire. Barbara Koerble writes about the alternative gallery space, deadWEST and the artists in the spring 2016 exhibition, Open Range.
legit and in print
Jill and I got three works in the Rethinking Ceramics exhibition in Rosenberg, Oregon and exhibition catalog. The show was juried by the awesome surreal ceramist Heidi Preuss Grew. We got our catalogs in the mail and are geekin’ out.
Creaturely Moments
Jill O’Brien and I have an exhibit up in the Lakeview Gallery at Tarrant County College Northwest Campus in Fort Worth through October 2, 2015. http://collegian.tccd.edu/?p=26754
Hoarder’s among friends
Thrilled to have Jill’s and my collaborative artwork, “Hoarder” in one of my favorite art magazines, Direct Art (Vol 21). View the whole magazine here until they post the new one.
This pile of creepy…
The Abject Objective
Road trip to Jewett
Doodles at sea.
Christian deLeon and I are trying a ‘trading’ sort of collaboration. He’s taken my scanned doodles to make new digital collages, and I’ve taken his digital print scraps and am adding nesting doodles. It’s a lot of fun working off of his shapes and the first time I’ve ever used my drawings as something more than a planning process.
One day I will be a lamb.
I’m working with Aaron Lara-Martinez on a video-projection installation project involving rooster-piranhas, false mirrors, and a filmed ritual with animal-masked participants. My lamb mask is almost finished. It started as paper mache and polymer clay but later I reinforced it with Magic Sculpt and Fiberglass/Resin.
